Soil Nails and Soil Nailing |
Soil Nailing works by using soil nails to strengthen an existing surface or structure. Soil Nail techniques include both hollow bar self-drilling and solid bar methods, with installation in soft soils and weathered rock strata. A soil nailing scheme will also often require a range of structural, erosion control and aesthetic facing solutions to suit both technical and finished appearance requirements. Soil Nails and Soil Nailing maximise available land usage and can minimse the interruption inherent in alternative approaches. Soil Nailing is especially effective in areas of environmental or archictectural sensitivity, refer to our case studies. Soil Nails have particular applications in areas of restricted access such as railway loactions and highways where soil nailing is often used to strengthen and stabilise embankments and cuttings. Soil Nailing offers cost savings over demolition and rebuild alternatives and a soil nailing scheme will be less disruptive than these approaches. Pennine offer a construct only or a design and construct facility for Soil Nail schemes. Pennine offers the soil nail design via a leading firm of geotechnical engineers specialising in Soil Nailing schemes. Upon installation of the Soil Nails, Pennine can undertake testing of the Soil Nails in accordance with BS8081. |
